Cold grips Valley as mercury dips to 5 degree Celsius

KATHMANDU:  The temperature of the Kathmandu Valley has gone down to 5 degree Celsius on Saturday morning. This is the record low temperature this year.

Earlier, the temperature of the Valley was recorded at 8.5 degree Celsius on Friday.

The mercury went down this morning since the weather was clear at night throughout the country, said Barun Paudel, a meteorologist.

“When the sky is overcast at night, the temperature of the land does not decrease but when the weather is clear during night, the land gets colder decreasing the temperature,” said Paudel.

With the generally cloudy weather system subsiding, the weather is getting clear throughout the country starting today.

When the weather becomes clear, the temperature will go down further, according to Meteorological Forecasting Division.
