71 journalists infected with coronavirus, Province-2 records highest infection

KATHMANDU: A total of 71 journalists have been reported to have contracted coronavirus as of Friday—most of them from Province -2.

According to the Federation of Nepalis Journalists (FNJ), the infected journalists were from six States. Sudurpaschim State is the only State not having any number of the infected journalist.

The FNJ said that Province -1 reports 13 infected journalists, out of them, 12 are from Morang and one from Udayapur district.

Similarly, there are 27 such journalists in Province -2, the highest among the States. Among them, 13 were from Parsa, four from Bara, two from Dhanusha, three from Saptari, three from Sarlahi, one from Mahottari and one from Rautahat district.

Likewise, 11 journalists have been tested positive for the deadly infection in the Bagmati State. Among them nine are from Kathmandu and two from Lalitpur.

Gandaki State records eight such journalists, out of them, one is from Kaski and seven from Nawalpur district.
State -5 reported 11 journalists with COVID-19. Among them, two are from Banke, one from Bardiya, one from Kapilvastu and two from Rupandehi district.

Karmali State has only one COVID-19 infected journalist, according to FNJ’s General-Secretary Ramesh Bista. Among all the infected journalists, some have been recovered fully while others were undergoing treatment in different COVID-19 Special Hospitals.

The journalists working at the forefront are at a high risk of COVID-19 contagion. The umbrella organization of the journalists in the country, thus, has demanded free PCR tests of the journalists working in the forefront and put in place treatment facilities for the infected ones.

The Federation has also urged all the media persons to adhere to the health safety measures and observe adequate precautions against the flu-like infection while discharging duties at the health crisis like this. RSS
