New ad hoc committee formed for Nepal Red Cross Society

KATHMANDU: A new 33-member ad hoc committee has been formed for the Nepal Red Cross Society recently.

The government dissolved the Sanjeev Thapa led executive committee team which was found not holding its general convention on time and also involved in embezzlement.

The meeting of the council of ministers held on last Monday decided to form a new committee led by Dr. Netra Prasad Timalsina as per the proposal of the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens.

The investigation team formed to probe into the embezzlement of funds had claimed that there were cases of irregularities in the Nepal Red Cross. In the subsequent action, the Thapa-led team was dissolved and a new team was formed.

The Nepal Red Cross Society had received billions of foreign assistance in grants without the approval of the government and had not renewed the organization.

The newly formed ad hoc committee includes Dr Bishweshowr Maskey and Sharmila Karki as the Vice-President, Pitambar Aryal as the general-secretary, Sitaram Koirala as the treasurer and Hom Prasad Pathak as the deputy treasurer.

Members include Shree Krishna Dahal, Arun Khanal, Indra Bahadur Gurung and Kumar Thapa among others.
