UN peacekeeper Lt. Col. Bista dies in Sudan

KATHMANDU: A Nepal Army officer executing his duty in UN Peacekeeping Mission in Sudan has died of heart attack on Thursday.

Lieutenant Colonel Hridayesh Bist, 38, died of heart attack in Darfur based UN Office.

Bist suffered heart attack while he was ‘briefing’ his fellow officers the security status in Darfur, Sudan.

Lt. Bist is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Nepal Army’s headquarter has verified the news about the sad demise of Lt. Col. Bist.

United Nations has deployed peacekeepers from various member nations under the ‘protecting civilians, facilitating humanitarian aid and helping political process in Darfur’ mission.
