Najarpur: A village free from liquor and smoking!

RAUTAHAT: When the world is alarmed at the animal sacrifice of Gadhimai, very few have heard about a village free from liquor and tobacco products lying in the neighboring district of Rautahat.

Najarpur, a village now in Ward-9 of Chandrapur Municipality has been abstaining from liquors and tobacco products.

Also known as Nijananda Dham this village is a model religious village of Province 2. Najarpur is enlisted as the religious tourism destination of Province 2.

Established in 1964, Najarpur, a village situated at 95 KM west of Janakpur city, has more than 150 households.

While the Gadhimai fair, the world’s largest animal sacrificing FETE is continued in Bara, Rautahat proudly announces it has a village also known as a vegetarian model village.

No animal sacrifice is allowed to appease the goddesses here.

In the middle of the village is situated an artistic Krishna Pranami Temple neighboring with a beautiful fruit orchard.  The income of the temple is invested in the school, a culinary, a senior citizen’s home and a hospice.

There are only six grocery shops in the village; none of them sell any tobacco products including chewing tobacco and cigarettes, and alcoholic drinks.

“We are proud to say that we are working united to safeguard the glorious identity ahead,” said Krishna Devkota, a youth found in a grocery near the temple.

“This agricultural village had declared itself a hundred percent literate village 20 years before,” he added proudly.
