Baburam Bhattarai demands death penalty to rapist

KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and Janata Samajwadi Party leader Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has demanded death penalty to rapists.

Writing on a microblogging site Twitter on Sunday evening, Bhattarai said that rapists should be given death penalty.

He raised the issue of death penalty claiming legal reforms are required to prevent rape.

Referring to the incident of the murder after rape case of a girl from Bajhang, Dr. Bhattarai has raised the issue of death penalty.

He tweeted, “Our state has been found guilty in the rape and murder case of Namita during the monarchy period (from Sunita to Nirmala Pant-Samjhana BK during the republican period). Now let’s do this: Punishment to official who fails to arrest the rapists, separate bench in the court and death penalty to the accused.”
