BIRATNAGAR: In order to prevent the further spread of pandemic coronavirus infection at the community level, Biratnagar Metropolitan City has announced to postpone all activities except essential ones beginning from  today.

A meeting of the COVID-19 Crisis Management Committee (CCMC) presided over by Mayor Bhim Parajuli took a decision to this end.

It is said that essential services to be delivered from the Metropolitan and ward offices and services of fire engines, ambulance, health care, sanitation, revenue management, social security and crucial recommendations would continue unhindered.

The city took such a decision as the number of coronavirus infections increased day by day in the recent time. Illegal human mobility from the bordering Indian cities is prohibited while the rickshaw pullers are asked to maintain social distancing.

Similarly, crowds in the markets and businesses would be discouraged while the use of face mask is made compulsory in the public places.

Meanwhile, 31 individuals tested positive for the coronavirus in the State No. 1 including 22 in Morang district in the past 24 hours. Eight others were spotted in Ilam district.
