KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has asked the government to identify and book perpetrators behind the inhumane criminal offence that took place in Rukum (West) few days back over the inter-caste marriage issue.

The NHRC has expressed deep sorrow over the incident in a press statement today, urging the government to ensure a minute and impartial investigation into the matter and bring everyone found guilty under the purview of law.

It has termed the incident as the worst form of caste-based discrimination noting its serious attention was drawn towards the killings of Nawaraj Bishwakarma, Tikaram Sunar and Ganesh BK in the incident and unknown status of three others.

It has sought the guarantee of zero-tolerance against the incidences of caste-based discrimination increasing lately in several parts of the country, impartial and in-depth investigations into such cases and appropriate relief and compensations to the survivors.

Such incidences are against the Nepal Constitution which guarantees the right against untouchability and discrimination and right to live with dignity, other laws against untouchability and social discrimination and the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discriminations, according to the NHRC.

It said the human rights watchdog body has already sent a letter to the local police and administration through its Karnali state office seeking effective investigation into the issue.
