Man dies in police action in Jhapa, sparks protest



JHAPA: A local was killed when Armed Police Force (APF) personnel opened fire on a crowd at Kamatoli of Jhapa rural municipality-3 on Wednesday.

A 38-year-old Ramikul Alam was severely injured when security forces fired in retaliation at a group of people who attacked them while on duty.

APF personnel fired bullet at a crowd when locals, involved in a dispute on slaughtering an ox, attacked them all of a sudden.

Alam, who was rushed to the hospital, died while receiving treatment at the Birtamod-based B&C Hospital, according to Durga Prasai, the Chairperson of the hospital.

Irate locals burnt tyres protesting the death of the local.
