Sudurpaschim State Assembly meeting adjourned

DHANGADHI: The meeting of the Sudurpaschim State Assembly was adjourned on Friday due to obstruction by opposition parties — the Nepali Congress and Rastriya Janata Party.

Speaker of the State Assembly, Arjun Bahadur Thapa, gave permission to a member from the opposition party to speak after the opposition party members stood up from their seats as soon as the meeting got underway.

Krishna Bahadur Chaudhary of Rastriya Janata Party alleged the province government failing in all fronts, including the prevention of Covid-19, management of treatment of the infected persons, and management of quarantines, among others.

He also accused the government of involved in corruption in allocation of development projects.

Chaudhary also demanded information about the exact details of the expenses of Rs 930 million which have been made in the management of coronavirus prevention and treatment.

He also demanded expanding the reach of PCR tests.

Speaker Thapa then said that the attention of the Assembly was drawn by the views coming from the opposition legislator.

The State Assembly has not been able to start deliberation on the policy and programmes and the budget for the fiscal year 2020/21 due to the continuous obstruction of the Assembly by opposition parties.

The Assembly was also obstructed on June 24 before this. The agenda of the meeting today was to start discussions on the policy and programs and the budget brought by the government.
