US reviewing military shift to counter China’s threat to India: Mike Pompeo

WASHINGTON DC: The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the US is reviewing its global deployment of forces to make sure it is postured appropriately to counter China’s People’s Liberation Army given Beijing’s increasing threat to Asian countries like India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines.

US Secretary of State Pompeo made these remarks in response to a question at the virtual Brussels Forum 2020 of the German Marshall Fund, international media reports have said.

According to him, the US is ensuring that it is postured appropriately to counter the PLA.

“We are going to ensure we have resources in place to do that,” Pompeo said.

According to him, the force posture review is being done at the instruction of US President Donald Trump, as part of which the US is decreasing its number of troops in Germany from about 52,000 to 25,000.

He added that in certain places, there will be fewer American resources.

“There’ll be other places – I talked about the Chinese Communist Party’s threat, so now threats to India, threats to Malaysia, threats to Vietnam, Indonesia, South China Sea challenges, the Philippines,” Pompeo said.
