Madhyapur Thimi Municipality unveils its 3 years of achievements

BHAKTAPUR:  The Madhyapur Thimi Municipality has claimed that it has made a stride satisfactorily in the sector of education, health and culture conservation since the new leadership assumed the office.

Organizing a press conference here today on the third anniversary of taking charge of office of Municipality, mayor Madansundar Shrestha presented the list of reforms, progresses and achievements of the Municipality over the period of three years.

During this course, as Mayor Shrestha put it, the Municipality developed new human settlements in the municipality while continuing the conservation of the old human settlements.

The new settlements had houses built in traditional style and while the quake-damaged cultural heritages were reconstructed, the old architectural designed was retained in a bid to preserve and conserve cultural heritages of this place.

Furthermore, the Municipality which had also had prioritized construction of open spaces such as parks and chowk (thoroughfare), built such gardens and recreational places and places for work out for public.

Also, the traditional dances that were stalled for many years were resumed after the local representatives assumed their offices, the Mayor said.

Such dances include Bhail Pyakhang, halted for 45 years, Mahakali Pyakhang halted for 23 years and Salacha Pyakhang that was not performed for 17 years owing to various issues, according to him.

Almost all the roads in Madhyapur Thimi Municipality saw expansion up to 11 metres in width over this period.

Likewise, the board exam of class 8 in public schools were held for free-of-cost and Municipality sponsored 5 per cent of the total 10 per cent scholarships being granted in the local schools for the students from class 1 to 12.

As for the health sector, a 72-bed hospital run by Municipality will be upgraded to 300-bed soon, said Mayor Shrestha. The Municipality will also run a nursing college very soon, he said.

There were currently two urban health clinic, five health posts and one Ayurvedic drug store run by the Municipality.

The Municipality has provided relief materials to more than 10,000 jobless daily wagers and destitute persons since the nation-wide lockdown was enforced to contain the spread of COVID-19, it was shared.

More than 150 million rupees of Municipality budget has been spent to provide assistances to those hit hardest by the COVID-19 and its fallout.

More than 116,000 persons had also availed free meal from the community mess run by the Municipality since the lockdown. “The Municipality is committed to making Madhyapur Thimi a corruption-free and well-governed municipality,” pledged Mayor Shrestha.
