One held on rape charge



BHAKTAPUR: A woman has become a victim of gang rape here in Madhyapur Thimi during lockdown enforced by the government to stem the spread of coronavirus.

Police arrested 22-year-old Rohit Giri among five people on the charge of raping a 20-year-old woman on May 21. It is said Giri and his accomplices lived in rented rooms at Purano Thimi of Madhyapur municipality-6. Police paraded the accused Giri before the media on Sunday.

Police said Giri lured the woman with money, took her to his room and raped her. He then called four of his friends including Kawang Lama to his room and each of them raped the woman many times holding her hostage, Deputy Superintendent of Metropolitan Police Range Bhaktapur, Deepak Giri, said.

The woman lodged a complaint to the Metropolitan Police Circle Thimi on May 22 and acting on this police arrested Giri. A search is on for the four absconding people involved in the gang rape.
