KATHMANDU: With the COVID-19 rendering millions of people jobless globally,  the Nepal government is preparing to bring a special package to create job opportunities in the country.

The Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security has said the government is preparing to introduce self-employment programs worth over Rs 10 billion through the upcoming budget.

Almost 2.4 million people in Nepal and 4 million working abroad are likely to lose their jobs due to Coronavirus pandemic.

The programs will address both the growing demand of new jobs and those rendered jobless caused by the novel virus, said Suman Ghimire, spokesperson of the Ministry of Labor.

The government is doing homework so as to create employment opportunities for those who have lost their jobs in Nepal and abroad due to Coronavirus pandemic.

Broke out in Wuhan City of China last December, the deadly virus has spread to 210 countries including two international conveyances across the world, killing 197, 074 and rendering millions of people jobless.
