COVID-19 death toll climbs to 6,820 in Italy as 743 die in a single day

KATHMANDU: With the coronavirus going pandemic across the world, the European continent has been the worst hit.

The death toll in Italy has climbed to 6,820 after 743 died in the last 24 hours. A total of 69,176 have been infected. Of them, 8,326 have recovered after treatment. Similarly, the condition of 3,393 among 54,030 currently undergoing treatment is critical.

Meanwhile, Spain has declared the state of emergency to combat the COVID-19.

The capital city Madrid has been the center of epidemic. The first case of coronavirus infection had been detected on January 31 in Spain.

The novel virus claimed 680 people on Tuesday. A total of 3,794 have returned home after treatment in Spain while the condition of 2,636 is critical. Over 42,000 have been infected with the virus in the European country.

The deadly virus which first broke out in Chinese Wuhan City on December 31 has already spread to 197 countries, claiming the lives of 18,804 so far.

As many as 2,290 people have lost their lives due to coronavirus in the last 24 hours globally.
