NCP row: Dahal-Nepal faction want PM Oli to quit one post

KATHMANDU: The internal dispute in the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) seems to deepen further as the disgruntled faction has started the exercise of ousting Prime Minister KP Oli from one post.

A party insider said the faction led by NCP Executive Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal has reiterated the need of enforcing ‘one person, one post’ in the party, which means that PM Oli has to quit either one of the two posts.

Oli is currently holding two posts of Prime Minister and party Chairman.

According to the source, Prachanda and senior leader Nepal are devising a strategy to escalate the issue once again.

The NCP is yet to implement the Standing Committee meeting yet.

Disputes between Prime Minister Oli and party Chairman Prachanda, which had reached a new height was deescalated after Chinese Ambassador Hou Yanqi met with the former last week in a bid to avert party split.

Majority of the NCP leaders have been demanding that PM Oli should quit either one of the two posts.

NCP Secretariat members, including Chairman Dahal, senior leaders Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal, Vice Chairman Bamdev Gautam and Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha are currently working out a strategy to pressurize Prime Minister Oli to quit one post, according to the source.

The source further stated that the leaders are disappointed at the Prime Minister Oli’s “self-centered” attitude.

Meanwhile, PM Oli is adamant to his stance of not quitting the posts despite assurances of doing so “at an appropriate time”.
