RAUTAHAT: Indian nations from bordering villages have attacked the Armed Police Force (APF) deployed for border security after they stopped the Indians trying to cross the border that has been sealed to curb coronavirus.
Some 200 Indians of Koraiya and Kharsalwa villages attacked the police personnel on duty at Border Out Post at Sarmujawa in Rautahat on Friday evening.
A policeman was injured when one of the irate Indian women trying to cross border attacked him with a sickle.
A team of 15 APF personnel deployed at Narkatiya of Rautahat had prevented two women of East Champaran, Bihar from entering Nepal.
According to police, the women returned with more than 200 people from bordering villages claiming that the lands on the Nepali side belongs to them and they should be allowed to cross the border.
“While the discussion was going on, one of the women in the mass took out a sickle and attacked the police,” SP Rabin Raj Karnajit said from Narkatiya, “The police got injured on his hand.”
The sources said that the APF then fired one round in self-defense.
APF has taken Indian national Rabindra Kushwaha, 45, on allegation of incitement and assault and handed him to Narkatiya Police.
After the incident, a troop of 50 APF personnel in the command of SP Rabin Raj Karnajit and 35 Nepal Police personnel in the command of Rakesh Kumar Yadav were sent at the site instantly.
Arrested Indian national has been handed over to Indian police force deployed at the border.
According to the police, the situation is under control in the area now.
