Nepal reports one more COVID-19 case, tally reaches 49

KATHMANDU: Nepal has confirmed a new COVID-19 case on Friday evening taking the total cases to 49.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a 62-year-old man from Jhapa has tested positive for coronavirus. It is the first case of COVID-19 in the district.

His swab sample was tested at the Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences.

The man has been isolated and his health condition is normal, stated Ministry’s Co-Spokesperson Dr. Samir Kumar Adhikari.

Nepal has currently 39 active cases with 10 persons discharged following successful treatment.

According to the ministry, it has performed over 47,000 COVID-19 tests until Friday afternoon.

Earlier today, Speaking at a regular press briefing, Spokesperson at the Ministry Dr. Bikash Devkota shared that 47,496 samples have been tested so far through Polymerase Chain Reaction and Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) methods.

According to him, 3,791 samples were tested in the last 24 hours and 93 people have been put in isolation across the country.
