Prez Bhandari scraps controversial ordinances

KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has revoked controversial ordinances withdrawn by the government.

President Bhandari scarped the ordinances related to political party and constitutional council using Article 114(1b) of the Constitution that allows the President to revoke an ordinance anytime, the Office of President stated.

A cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Residence in Baluwatar on Friday had decided to withdraw the ordinances following criticisms from all quarters.

These ordinances had been brought and authenticated by the President on April 20. President Bhandari had authenticated them and they had been published in the national gazette on the same day.

The amendments on the provisions in the Political Party Act had made it easy to split political parties while another ordinance had made it possible to call a meeting of the Constitutional Council without the main opposition party leader’s presence.
