KATHMANDU: The government has enforced a nation-wide lockdown effective from today to combat the coronavirus.

A meeting of COVID-19 Prevention and Control Coordination Committee led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense held on Monday decided to this effect.

People have been told to stay indoors and not to come out of their houses except for emergency cases. With the lockdown taking effect from today, the Kathmandu Valley is wearing a deserted look.

Vehicles have stayed off the road while commuters are not visible on the pavements in the capital. Police are seen interrogating even those coming out of the houses for emergency cases.

Only those vehicles belonging to press, ambulances and water tankers are permitted to ply the roads.
