NC narrows down differences; national convention in Feb next year

KATHMANDU: A series of efforts to end the intra-party disputes in the Nepali Congress (NC) party have taken a shape with both the establishment side and the disgruntled faction agreeing to hold the party’s national convention from February 19, 2021.

The five-hour-long ‘crucial’ meeting held at party President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha on Friday saw both the sides maintaining flexibility notwithstanding their respective stances.

The disenchanted faction led by party senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel agreed on the convention date of February 19-22 — the date earlier decided by the NC central committee on December 27 last year. The Poudel faction had boycotted the central committee meeting on December 27.

“Friday’s meeting has agreed to hold the convention besides moving ahead together,” party vice president Bilamendra Nidhi told Khabarhub.

Likewise, the meeting has also agreed to nominate office bearers in the Nepal Students Union, the party’s sister organization on Sunday.

The party’s central committee meeting will be held on January 27 at the party central office in Sanepa, according to Nidhi.
