Prachanda-Nepal faction holding SC meeting prior to CC

Surendra Pandey likely to become General Secretary

KATHMANDU: Prachanda-Nepal faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP)  has called an emergency meeting of the Standing Committee (SC) prior to the central committee (CC) meeting  today.

“The SC meeting will prepare some agendas for the CC meeting,” leader Beduram Bhusal told Khabarhub.

However, Bhusal did not disclose what agendas the SC meeting called at Karki Banquet will prepare for the CC meeting.

Central member of Prachanda-Nepal group Shiva Kumar Mandal said the SC meeting will prepare agendas on the appointment of secretary general and the Secretariat Committee of the faction for the CC meeting.

“The SC meeting will prepare proposals on issues  ranging from CC members to the Secretariat Committee for the endorsement by the CC committee,” said Mandal.

Five leaders are in the fray for the post of General Secretary. Names of Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Surendra Panday,  Bhim Rawal, Janardan Sharma, Barshaman Pun have been proposed.

According to Mandal, Surendra Pandey is likely to become the General Secretary of the Prachanda-Nepal faction through the CC meeting today.

Similarly, Prachanda-Nepal faction in its CC meeting on Tuesday appointed Madhav Nepal as its chair ousting Prime Minister Oli.

Today’s CC meeting will fix the rank of the two chairpersons and appoint a general secretary to the faction, sources have said.

In its CC meeting held yesterday, Prachanda-Nepal group appointed Pushpa Kamal Dahal as its Parliamentary Party leader by ousting Oli.

Both the factions – Oli and  Prachanda-Nepal – of the ruling NCP have intensified meetings and appointments claiming legitimacy of the party even though it is yet to split officially.

The Supreme Court will decide the fate of the factions of the ruling NCP and the dissolution of the House of Representatives on Friday.
