Nepali Congress CWC meeting taking place today

Likely to announce nationwide protest programs against HoR dissolution

KATHMANDU: The central working committee meeting of the main opposition party Nepali Congress is taking place today.

NC leaders have been divided over the issue of the House of Representatives (HoR) dissolution and the mid-term poll announced by the KP Oli-led government.

The meeting is likely to announce nationwide protests against the dissolution of the HoR, sources said.

NC leaders in the CWC meeting on Wednesday presented mixed views over the parliament dissolution.

NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba and senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel were divided over whether to hit the streets or not for the reinstatement of the dissolved parliament.

According to an NC leader privy to the meeting, Deuba is in favor of the mid-term poll announced by Prime Minister Oli while Poudel is for the reinstatement of the parliament.

Senior leader Paudel has called on all the party rank and file to stand united to hit the streets for the reinstatement of the parliament.

“We should not support the Oli’s move to dissolve the parliament as it is unconstitutional, anti-democratic and against the mandate of the people,” an NC leader privy to the meeting quoted Poudel as saying.

NP Saud who is considered close to Deuba opined that the NC should capitalize on the mid-term poll announced by the Oli-led government.

Saud suggested not to hit the streets demanding reinstatement of the dissolved parliament, according to the CWC member.
