KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan Police has nabbed Juju Kaji Maharjan and others involved in the vandalizing of the Sundhara-based Musafir Madini Mosque.
According to the police, a group of people led by Maharjan had demolished the front part of the mosque with a dozer on Saturday morning.
The Muslim communities that have been joining the 100-year-old mosque for prayer regard it as a plot of the land mafia that has been targeting the mosque to capture the land.
Samim Ansari, the Chairman of the National Muslim Commission, claimed that the mosque was demolished by the land mafia that had been eyeing the land for a long.
The ownership of the mosque is under Nepal Government, and the management of the mosque is looked after by the local mosque management committee.
The mosque was partly damaged when Dharahara had fallen on it as well in the 2015 earthquake.
The mosque was established nearly 100 years ago to arrange for the prayer spot for the followers of Islam when they visited Kathmandu.
In the meantime, Muslim Commission’s Chairman Ansari laid the foundation stone for the reconstruction of the mosque on Saturday afternoon.
