Home Ministry directive to stop attacks for ‘practicing witchcraft’

KATHMANDU: The Home Ministry has issued necessary directives to all its subordinate bodies to stop the inhumane acts taking place by charging people of practicing witchcraft and in the name of untouchability.

The directive comes in wake of a spate of incidents taking place in different districts, including in the Tarai, where women have been tortured inhumanely.

The Ministry has asked local authorities to immediately stop such acts and bring the perpetrators to justice. The Home Ministry has also asked the Nepal Police headquarters to take necessary action and report back on the same.

The subordinate authorities have also been urged to carry out greater awareness campaign against the harmful practices in coordination with the local judicial committee, concerned agencies and stakeholder organizations.
