Ruling party’s student wing seeks impeachment against CJ Rana



KATHMANDU: All Nepal National Free Students’ Union (ANNFSU), the student wind of ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP), has demanded impeachment against Chief Justice (CJ) Cholendra Shumsher Rana.

ANNFSU has demanded CJ Rana be impeached for the verdict to reduce life imprisonment into eight years jail in then Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Armed Police Force Ranjan Koirala involved murder case.

Joining hand with the protestors seeking justice in the murder case, ANNFSU demanded the CJ and another Justice of Supreme Court be impeached ‘for their abuse of power and misinterpretation of the statutes’.

The joint bench of CJ Rana and Justice Tej Bahadur KC on June 29 had reduced the 20 year-long jail term of murder-convict then DIG Koirala to eight years and six months.

Based on the latest verdict, Koirala, who was serving a jail term on the charge of killing his own wife, was released from on Thursday.

Earlier the District Court and the High Court had issued a verdict of life imprisonment on Koirala confiscating all his property. Koirala had confessed to killing his wife in January 2012.
