WHF calls for opening up religious places by maintaining social distance

KATHMANDU: The World Hindu Federation (WHF) has called on the government to make arrangements for opening the temples and shrines, the centers of faith of the Vedic Sanatan Hindu followers, by maintaining social distance.

In a press release issued today, WHF president Ram Chandra Adhikari and general secretary Ganesh Prasad Neupane called for opening the places of worship as offering puja and worship, as well as obeisance, motivated a person to follow the path of righteousness from the bad path and also with all the sectors opening after the lifting of the lockdown.

The WHF president said Federation is surprised with the closure of religious places as temples and shrines, monasteries, stupas (Buddhist temples) and others even when all sectors have been opened.

It also drew the attention of the government on the need of analyzing the status of the coronavirus infection in the country between March 24, when the lockdown was imposed and the present.

The Federation expressed its objections saying the government has not thought of the possibility of opening the temples and shrines by maintaining a physical distance. Although the government had not formally opened the temples and shrines and places of worship, a large number of devotees had thronged the temples and shrines dedicated to Hindu god Shiva, including the Pashupatinath temple, on the first Monday of the month of Saun.

WHF also demanded that the government make public the facts and evidence regarding the Provincement made by Prime Minister at a program marking the Bhanu Jayanti (birth anniversary of pioneer poet Bhanu Bhakta Acharya) that the birthplace of the Hindu god Ram is in Nepal.
