Doctors’ stay at hotel triggers protest

KASKI: Locals have staged demonstration after Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences kept medical doctors and nurses at a hotel without coordination with the ward.

Medical doctors and nurse have been staying at Tulip Pokhar Inn based in Pokhara-6 Baidam for the last four days, according to locals.

According to Mina Bhattarai, chairman of Community Police Service Center Baidam said locals protested after doctors and nurses involved in the treatment of COVID-19-infected people kept in the hotel which does not meet standards set by the World Health Organizations (WHO).

“There are 52 houses of workers around the premises of the hotel. Their children walk openly and the vehicle that ferried infected doctors is parked for hours in front of the hotel. Our demand is that the infected people should be kept in proper isolation,” said a demonstrator.

Hotelier Bishnu Acharya said the infected doctors and nurse have been staying with a legal document. “They come and go safely by maintaining social distancing.”
