Baitadi’s Lawmaker demands food supply by helicopter

BAITADI: Member of the House of Representatives, Ganesh Singh Dhagunna, has demanded the government to supply food grain by helicopter in Chhangru and Tinkar of Byas Rural Municipality-1 in the district.

Meeting the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supply, Lekharaj Bhatta, recently, lawmaker Dhagunna said the government could manage food supply in Chhangru and Tinkar people by helicopter as there was no better option than this to supply food.

In Nepali side, there is no way for beast of burden to carry the load. The people however reach Kucha from Khalanga on foot to collect food.

The people from Byas, Chhangru and Tinkar have gone to Kucha via Indian side on Thursday with four day’s trek. Immediate food supply was demanded as these areas could see food shortage soon.

There are 115 households in Chhangru and 65 households in Tinkar.

Ward Secretary of Byas-1, Binod Singh Budhathoki, informed that nearly 70 percent people from Byas have migrated to Kucha village where they get food.

Even the children are taken together in view of the lockdown which has forced the closure of schools. The people have left district headquarters, thinking that village would be safer to stay away from coronavirus.

In the past, the people here used to bring foods from Taklakot of China and Indian market. As the borders are sealed because of the lockdown this year, the food supply is difficult.

So, the government has been demanded to supply food grains by helicopter, Dhagunna added.

Moreover, the locals here have not cultivated field for agricultural products.

Meanwhile, Nepal Army has begun opening track to reach the remote area. After the track is complete, the food supply would be easy with the use of beast of burden, the locals hope.
