Bribe taker to get 14 yrs in jail for receving over Rs 100 mln

KATHMANDU: Legislation Management Committee of the Parliament has reached an agreement to sentence an official 10 to 14 years in jail for taking bribe of over Rs 100 million.

Lawmakers reached a deal to this effect during the section-wise deliberation on the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2002 on Friday.

Talking to Khabarhub, Parshuram Meghi Gurung, chairman of the Committee, said the bribe taken will be confiscated from the official and charged with the fine equivalent to the bribe amount taken.

Similarly, the official who takes Rs 10 million to 100 million will be incarcerated for 8 to 10 years.

Earlier, the bribe taker used to be sentenced to 8 to 10 years in jail for receiving more than Rs 100 million, according to the previous provision.

Likewise, those who take up to Rs 10 million in bribe will be sentenced to 4 to 8 years in jail and one to six months for taking Rs 50,000 bribe.
