NCP decides to recommend Vice-chair Gautam as NA member

KATHMANDU: The ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has decided to recommend the party’s vice-chairman Bamdev Gautam for his nomination as National Assembly (NA) member.

Leaders at a Secretariat meeting held on Saturday reached an understanding to that end.

“An understanding has been reached to rope in him as NA member. However, a formal decision has not been made yet,” media reports said quoting a Secretariat member.

Gautam, who had refused the party leadership’s offer after the party chairs declined to table a motion to amend the constitution to make it possible for a member of the upper house to be named Prime Minister.

However, he now backtracked from his demand.

One NA member would be nominated by the President on the recommendation of the government.
