Chinese Ambassador Yanqi on the move again; meets NCP Chair Prachanda

KATHMANDU: Ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Executive Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Chinese Ambassador Hou Yanqi have held talks on Monday morning.

Chinese Ambassador Yanqi reached Khumaltar to visit Dahal this morning, according to the Dahal’s press secretariat.

Yanqi’s visit has been viewed significant at a time when the intra-party rift of the NCP has touched a new height.

In the meeting today, Ambassador Yanqi and Dahal dwelled on Nepal-Nepal relations and the cooperation between NCP and  Chinese Communist Party, according to the Dahal’s secretariat.

Yanqi also presented a book by Chinese President Xi Jingping to Dahal during the meeting.

Observers say it has become a customary affair on the part of Chinese Ambassador Yanqi to meet ruling NCP leaders and patch-up differences between them.

It may be recalled that she had held a wide discussion with Prime Minister KP Oli last week at the latter’s official residence in Baluwatar.

Her customary meetings with the NCP leaders have been dubbed as an endeavor to avert the “imminent” split of the NCP.

Party insiders claim that Chinese Ambassador Yanqi will be “on the move” when the intra-party conflict reaches a new height.

It may be noted that Yanqi has been accustomed to intensifying meetings with the NCP top-notch leaders to prevent the party from splitting.

She had also met and discussed with the NCP top leaders, including NCP Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhalanath Khanal in May this year when the party was on the verge of a split.

China government’s move about the micromanagement of Nepali politics has drawn international attention towards Nepal, of late, observers say.
