Nepal clinches four gold medals in virtual Taekwondo Competition



KATHMANDU: Nepal has bagged three gold medals, three silver and 14 bronze medals in the virtual poomsae Taekwondo competition held under the International Open Friendly Taekwondo Championship (IOFTC).

Kamal Shrestha, Parbati Gurung, Nikun Gurung and Saragam Thapa won gold medals for Nepal. Kamal stood first under the male 30 age category in which Nepal’s Hasta Bahadur Tamang pocketed silver and Jit Bahadur Bot and
Prem Bahadur Limso had settled with bronze medal in the competition held virtually due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Similarly, Parbati became first under female 30 age category. Nepal’s Sanjila Timilsina got silver medal in the match held under the same category.

Nepal’s Nikun Gurung won gold medal under the age 7 event. He did not have rival under this category. He scored 4.7.

Likewise, Saragam claimed gold medal under the female 9 age category. Pragyan Tamang secured silver under male 9 age category while Karun Khand and Aryason Jung Rana concluded with bronze medals.

Sandhya Lama became third under female below 14 age category. Dipesh Gurung and Monika Ramtel got bronze medals under male and female under 17 age category respectively.

Suraj Shrestha bagged bronze medal under male 40 age category while Reshmaya Gurung for the same category for female.

Parshu Narayan Bohora and Madhusudan Sapkota confined to bronze medal under male 50 while Fadindra Khadka got silver under 50 age category.

The jury panel accredited by the World Taekwondo Federation had evaluated the virtual match and made pubic their decisions. The competition was organized in association with the Everest Taekwondo Association and Universal United Nepalis Taekwondo Federation among others.

Director of the competition Diwakar Maharjan shared that the competition was organized to boost the morale of the players that could have been dampened by the postponement of the IOFTC’s major international taekwondo competition due to COVID-19 pandemic.
