Pak’s PIA aircraft with 107 passengers on board crashes in Karachi

KARACHI: An aircraft of PIA with 107 people, including 99 passengers and eight crew members on board, crashed on Friday at the southern Pakistani city of Karachi.

The aircraft PK 8303 has crashed, a spokesman for the national carrier said.

According to the Pakistani army, its quick reaction force and paramilitary troops have already reached the site rescue efforts.

TV channel Geo has shown crowds at the scene — a densely populated area. Eye-witnesses said the aircraft had fire coming from its wings. It then crashed into rooftops of houses.

Plumes of smoke was seen billowing in the sky at the crash site.

Some 25 residents of the site, injured in the crash, have been taken to hospitals, Pakistani officials have said.

Authorities have declared an emergency in all major hospitals of Karachi.
