COVID-19 impact: India announces complete lockdown in 75 districts



NEW DELHI: The Center and State governments of India on Sunday have decided to completely lock down 75 districts across India where coronavirus cases have been reported.

The government has also decided to suspend the interstate bus services till March 31 in view of the need to contain the spread of the deadly Covid-19, Indian media reports have said on Sunday.

The decisions to this effect were taken at a high-level meeting attended by the Chief Secretaries of all the states, cabinet secretary and the principal secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The government has also decided to extend the restrictions on the movement of non-essential passenger transport till March 31, according to a Union Home Ministry official.

Likewise, media reports said that the State governments will also issue orders allowing only essential services to operate in the 75 districts with confirmed Covid-19 cases.

The districts include those from Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala.

The chief secretaries said that there was a spontaneous response to the call for ‘Janata curfew’ by Prime Minister Modi.

Likewise, all train services have been suspended till March 31.

It should be noted that the total number of coronavirus cases in India rose to 341 on Sunday. (With inputs from Agencies)
