Bodies of 17 Indian security personnel found in Chhatisgarh



CHHATISGARH: At least 17 security personnel were martyred and 14 others injured in a Naxal attack in Sukma of Chhattisgarh.

The attack took place on Saturday, Indian media reports have said.

The bodies of the security personnel, missing after an encounter with Naxals in Sukma district, were found on Sunday, according to police.

Inspector General of Police, Sundarraj P said that the bodies were recovered by a search team in a forest.

It should be added that in a major joint offensive, some teams of around 600 personnel of the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), and Special Task Force (STF) had launched an anti-Naxal operation on Saturday.

A group of some 250 heavily armed ultras ambushed the security personnel, leaving 15 personnel injured.

The gun battle had lasted for some two-and-a-half hours, he said.

Likewise, Indian media reports said at least 16 automatic weapons, including AK47 and an Under Barrel Grenade Launcher were missing following the incident. (With inputs from Agencies)
