Prachanda objects to Oli’s decision to expand Central Committee

Says Thapa, Gautam will join the camp

KATHMANDU: Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Executive Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has expressed his serious objection to the decision of Prime Minister and party Chairman KP Sharma Oli to expand the Central Committee from a meeting held in Baluwatar.

While speaking at the factional Central Committee meeting on Tuesday, Prachanda said that decision to add about two-thirds of the members by a meeting with one-third of central members would not be acceptable.

Oli, during a Central Committee meeting of his faction, had announced of forming a 1,999-member General Convention organizing committee.

However, Prachanda insisted that the meeting convened by Oli was illegal while arguing that their meeting was legitimate.

“I want to tell the Election Commission that 65 percent of central members are present at this meeting. Some members are on their way. According to the constitution and rules, it is a legitimate NCP,” he said.

He also said that he believes that the constitutional organs are governed by the laws of Nepal.

On a separate note, Prachanda claimed Thapa will join his camp soon.

NCP Chairman Prachanda who visited Minister Thapa recently claimed Thapa would join the next meeting of the party called by him.

“Badal will come to our meeting soon and Bamdev Gautam has not joined the Oli faction’s gathering at Baluwatar,” Prachanda said, “Badal will join our meeting tomorrow.”

Although both factions led by PM Oli and executive Chairman Prachanda called the meetings on Wednesday, both factions have been claiming their meeting as official.

Influential leader Home Minister Thapa and NCP Vice-Chairman Bamdev Gautam have not clarified their position in the ongoing conflict.
