Man caught with Rs 321,000 fake notes



CHITWAN: The District Police Office, Chitwan, has arrested a man with Rs 321,000 counterfeit notes.

The arrested is Jit Bahadur Lopchan, 26, of Raksirang Rural Municipality-8 of Makwanpur.

Police arrested him from Rapti Municipality-5 Chowkidanda on Tuesday based on a tip-off that counterfeit notes were being traded and made public him on Thursday.

The law enforcement agency had seized 12 notes in the denomination of Rs 1,000 from his possession. He had also paid Rs 6,000 fake notes at a hotel and a grocery shop, police said.

The remaining amount was found hidden in the house.

According to Superintendent of Police Nantiraj Gurung, Rs 302,000 was recovered from his house.

According to the police, Lopchan has been remanded in custody by the District Court, Chitwan, under Article 22 of the Criminal Code, 2074 BS.

The offense carries a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment or a fine of up to Rs 100,000.

Chitwan Police Chief Gurung stated that a search is on for two others involved in the counterfeit note business.
