Four arrested with 21.9 kg red sandalwood



KATHMANDU: Police have arrested four individuals on the charge of smuggling red sandalwood from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-6, Buddhabhumi tole.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Metropolitan Police Crime Division, Kathmandu raided Damaru furniture factory based at Buddhabhumi tole and arrested Sunil Tamang of Kispang rural municipality, Nuwakot, Om Bahadur Tamang, 28, of Myajam rural municipality, Kailash Tamang, 29, Kavre, Timal and Lhakpa Lama, 42, of Sindhupalchowk, Helambu.

Police said they have seized 21.9 kilograms of red sandalwood during the raid.

The aromatic sandalwood which has medicinal and religious values was seized while it was being sold for Rs 8,500 per kg, according to the Division.
