COVID-19 cases in Nepal jump to 41

KATHMANDU: Udayapur district has reported nine new COVID-19 cases, the Ministry of Health and Population confirmed. With this, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Nepal has reached 41.

“Eight samples tested in Dharan came positive. All of the new infected are men,” Spokesperson at Health Ministry Dr. Bikash Devkota told Khabarhub, “We are finding out more information about them.”

According to sources, one sample tested at the Teku-based National Public Health Laboratory tested positive.

Swab samples were collected from 69 people living in the locality after 13 persons including 12 Indian nationals living at a mosque in Bhulke of the district were confirmed to be infected with COVID-19.

Their samples were tested at the Biratnagar-based Koshi Provincial Hospital and cross-verified at the Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences.

Some samples are still being tested, the Ministry added.

Earlier today, a 33-year old man was confirmed to be infected with the pandemic coronavirus.

The ministry said it has executed the contact tracing of the infected persons.

Out of 41 confirmed cases in Nepal, five have been discharged after recovery. A total of 36,719 people have been tested in Nepal for coronavirus till date.
