COVID-19: Police begin investigation into misleading audio

KATHMANDU: The Cybercrime Bureau of Nepal Police has initiated an investigation on a misleading audio clip that has become viral on social networking sites of late.

Deputy Inspector General of Nepal Police, Shailesh Chhetri, informed that investigation on the fake audio mentioning coronavirus case at Norvic Hospital was begun and the person on making public the audio would be brought to action soon.

The one-minute audio has said Norvic Hospital had coronavirus cases and it was informed by the employee there. The audio viral on social networking sites have panicked people and received criticism too.

Nepal Police has appealed to all not to run after rumor but follow the authentic information the government shares from time to time.

The government has already announced that anyone involved in spreading rumor and misleading information would face stringent action.

Meanwhile, the Norvic Hospital issued a press release and mentioned that there was no case of coronavirus.
The Hospital also demanded action on those spreading false information.
