KATHMANDU: A total of 16 more COVID-19 patients, including six in Kathmandu Valley, died in the last 24 hours in a record-high fatality registered in a single day.

Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population stated that the death toll from the pandemic has reached 427 with the new fatalities.

A total of 13 men and three women succumbed to the coronavirus, according to the Ministry.

A 72-year-old man in Jhapa, 49-year-old in Sunsari, 88-year-old in Parsa, aged 84 and 62 years in Bhaktapur, aged 58 and 73 years in Kathmandu, 68-year-old in Makwanpur, 61-year-old in Lalitpur, 55-year-old in Chitwan, 67-year-old in Rupandehi and aged 50 and 59 years in Banke died of the coronavirus.

Likewise, a woman aged 17 years in Makwanpur, 58 years in Lalitpur and 52 years in Dolakha succumbed to the pandemic, according to the Ministry.

Earlier on Sunday, Nepal had recorded 10 deaths from the pandemic.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,154 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the country in the past 24 hours.

The coronavirus tally has reached 65,276 with the fresh cases, Ministry’s Spokesperson Dr. Jageshwor Gautam said on Monday afternoon.

He added that the new cases were detected when 9,533 samples were tested in laboratories across the country.

Nepal has carried out 923,823 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests so far.

A total of 17,611 people are currently under isolation. Dr. Gautam stated that a total of 8,690 people are in home isolation and 8,921 in institutional isolation facilities.

Likewise, 7,403 people are in quarantine facilities across the country at present.

According to Dr. Gautam, 1,005 individuals got discharged from the hospitals in the past 24 hours while the number of people winning the battle against the virus reached 47,238 in the country.

Nepal’s recovery rate stands at 72 percent, he added.
