Nepal’s coronavirus tally reaches 17,994 with 150 fresh cases

KATHMANDU: Nepal reported 150 fresh coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours.

Speaking at a regular press briefing organized by the Ministry of Health and Population on Tuesday afternoon, Spokesperson Dr. Jageshwor Gautam said that the country’s COVID-19 tally has reached 17,994 with the new cases.

According to Dr. Gautam, the test conducted at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan showed two from Jhapa, one from Sarlahi and eight from Udayapur to have contracted coronavirus, while tests conducted at Koshi Hospital has confirmed the infection in two people from Ilam and one from Saptari.

Similarly, in a test conducted at the Provincial Public Health Laboratory, Biratnagar, three people from Morang were found infected, 29 people from Dhanusha and 13 people from Mahottari in the test conducted at the Provincial Public Health Laboratory, Janakpur and two persons from Parsa have been infected in tests at Narayani Hospital, Birgunj.

A total of four people from Chitwan were tested positive at Bharatpur Hospital Laboratory, Chitwan, while five people from Makwanpur were tested positive at Insect Disease Research and Training Center, Hetauda, one from Kavre and two from Ramechhap at Dhulikhel Hospital and tests conducted at the TU Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj, confirmed the infection in one person from Chitwan, one from Kailali, eight from Kathmandu, one from Mahottari, one from Nuwakot and one from Sarlahi.

A test conducted at Star Hospital Sanepa has confirmed corona infection in one person of Lalitpur, Spokesperson Dr. Gautam said.

Likewise, in a test conducted at Pokhara Institute of Health Sciences, three people from Gorkha were found infected and tests conducted at the Provincial Tuberculosis Center in Pokhara confirmed the infection in three people from Myagdi, three from Syangja and three from Baglung.

Spokesperson Dr. Gautam said that one from Nawalparasi, three from Banke and three from Dang were tested positive at the Provincial Public Health Laboratory, Rupandehi, one from Dailekh and one from Salyan in tests at Surkhet Provincial Hospital, in the tests conducted in Dailekh laboratory, 9 people from Dailekh were found infected, report of one came positive in tests at the laboratory of Chaurajahari Municipality and four people from Doti have been found infected in a laboratory test at Dadeldhura Hospital.

Similarly, three people from Kailali, four from Bajhang and 20 from Kanchanpur have been found infected in the test conducted at Seti Provincial Hospital.

Spokesperson Dr. Gautam said that 3,963 samples were tested through the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) method at 27 laboratories across the country.

Meanwhile, 609 COVID-19 patients were discharged from different hospitals and isolation centers.

So far, 12,477 people have been discharged across the country after recovery. The recovery rate in the country now stands at 69.34 percent.

Currently, 5,477 people are undergoing treatment and 21,704 have been quarantined.

Nepal’s COVID-19 death toll stands at 40.
