LAMJUNG: The Lamjung District Jail is facing several problems as the number of inmates is more than threefold its capacity.

Though it can accommodate 35 inmates 75 prisoners are living there. Of them, 69 are males while six are female. The prison has the capacity to accommodate 10 women and 25 males only.

According to jailor Bishnu Prasad Poudel, the inmates are facing acute shortage of basic facilities in accommodation.

“The old building is cracked and is in dilapidated condition,” said an inmate Man Bahadur Pariyar.

They were facing hardship in regular activities including the use of toilet, bathing, having meals, sleeping and other regular activities.

Poudel added that they were failing to manage social distancing during this COVID-19 pandemic as well. The jail building is 49 years old and it is awaiting repair and maintenance.
