Incessant downpour hits normal life, to continue until Thursday



KATHMANDU: The normal life has been affected in the country due to the incessant rainfall that has been continuing since last Sunday.

Seven people have died due to floods and landslides on Monday alone.

According to police seven people have lost their lives in Kathmandu, Darchula, Dhading, Tanahun and Gorkha and over three dozen families have been displaced due to landslides and floods triggered by monsoon.

Transport services have been hit after landslides disrupted road in various districts. Prithvi Highway has been disrupted since Monday after landslides occurred in various places along the road.

Chief District Officer of Dhading Asman Tamang said preparations are underway to clear the road once the weather becomes favorable.

Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) has predicted heavy rains until Thursday.

With the monsoon trough in the sky of Nepal, the rain will continue until it remains there.

According to the department, the rain is currently occurring in Pradesh 1, Pradesh 2, Bagmati Pradesh, Gandaki Pradesh and Sudurpashchim Pradesh. The rain will subside only after July 24, occurring to MFD.

Meanwhile, people living along the banks of the rivers have been advised to take precaution as the floods and landslides might occur.

Water level will rise in the Kankaki River, Koshi, Kamala, Bagmati, Tinau, Pashchim Rapti, Babai River and their tributaries until coming Friday.

All the 36 sluices have been opened in the Gandak barrage after the water level rose to the danger level on Monday.

Sindhupalchowk district administration has advised locals living along the bank of the Bhotekoshi River to take precaution saying that floods and landslides might occur.

Similarly, DAO, Sindhupalchowk on Monday issued a notice warning that Kerung Tso Lake situated at Khasha in China might burst and cause floods in the Bhotekoshi River.
