Vigorous exercise daily may shorten longevity: Study

KATHMANDU: A study analyzing longevity data for professional Japanese artistes, researchers found that Kabuki, a classical Japanese dance-drama performers, popular for vigorous movements, had shorter lifespans compared to other art performers.

The study published in the journal Palgrave Communications maintained that job-related strenuous exercise may not necessarily extend longevity.

Kazuhiro Kezuka and Naoyuki Hayashi of Tokyo Tech’s Institute of Liberal Arts had conducted the study.

Exercising is known to be a key to leading a long and healthy life. However, some studies question the idea of vigorous daily exercise.

The study showed that the lifespan of Kabuki actors was shorter than other actors.

The study, however, examined male-dominated professions only.
