KATHMANDU: The government has decided to bring an ordinance to amend the Political Parties Act for changing a provision that requires at least 40 percent members of Parliamentary Party and Central Committee for splitting a political party.

The amendment will be made so that a new party can be split with at least 40 percent of members of Parliamentary Party or Central Committee.

A meeting of Council of Ministers held at Baluwatar on Monday decided to that effect.

It should be noted that the Clause 33(2) of the Act about political parties requires the support of 40 members in the central committee and the parliamentary party to split a political party or to join some other party.
