Govt recommends Prem Kumar Rai as CIAA Chief

KATHMANDU: The government has recommended former Home Secretary Prem Kumar Rai as the Chief Commissioner of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).

A meeting of the Constitutional Council on December 15 decided to recommend Rai as the Chief Commissioner of the CIAA, sources said.

According to the decision, Rai’s name was registered in the Parliament Secretariat, said a source.

The government had brought the ordinance even after the Constitutional Council met to fill the vacancies in the Constitutional Commission.

A meeting of the Constitutional Council that followed the ordinance recommended Rai’s name to the chief commissioner, but the decision was kept secret.

On the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Oli, President Bidya Devi Bhandari has dissolved the House of Representatives of the Federal Parliament on Sunday and announced mid-term elections on April 30 and May 10 next year.

With the dissolution of the parliament, there will be no parliamentary hearing for Rai.
