Death toll of Nepalis abroad due to COVID-19 reaches 244



KATHMANDU: The death toll of Nepalis in foreign lands due to the coronavirus pandemic has reached 244 after one death reported in the USA.

According to Coordinator of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Health Committee Dr. Sanjeev Sapkota, Nepalis in 16 foreign countries have succumbed to the pandemic till Saturday evening.

According to the health committee, the infections have risen this week in the UK, Spain and India, as well as in Brazil and Uganda.

Nepalis living in 42 countries of the world have been infected with the coronavirus so far, said Dr. Sapkota.

So far, Nepalis living in 17 countries, including the USA, the UK, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Ireland, Japan, Turkey, the Netherlands, Sweden, India and South Africa, have lost their lives to the coronavirus.

Similarly, 100,831 Nepalis worldwide have been infected with the pandemic virus and 79,782 of them have been discharged.

Meanwhile, more than 69,000 Nepalis from different countries have returned home.

According to the COVID-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC), 69,289 Nepalis have returned home till Saturday amid the coronavirus pandemic.

A total of 14,211 people from Province 1, 11,436 people from Province 2, 18,073 people from Bagmati Province, 8,754 people from Gandaki Province, 11,231 people from Province 5, 1,491 people from Karnali Province and 1,694 people from Sudurpaschim Province have returned home.

Similarly, 2,399 from the undisclosed province have also returned home.
