Import through Birgunj picks up after COVID-19 restrictions eased



BIRGUNJ:  Entrepreneurs in the Bara-Parsa Industrial Corridor have become optimistic after the government lifted the eased restrictions enforced to stem the coronavirus’ spread and opened up public transport and markets.

Imports through Birgunj border point have increased as traffic has been eased.

Chief Customs Officer Gopal Khatri said that the import from the Integrated Check Post (ICP) of Birgunj has increased.

“Imports from customs have also increased as traffic has become easier. The number of vehicles that pass the daily inspection has reached around 600, ‘said Chief Customs Officer Khatri.

Under normal circumstances, about 700 vehicles enter the country daily. The number had dropped to 150 after the lockdown was enforced.
